Is Irobot Vacuum As Important As Everyone Says?

The iRobot Roomba 980 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Robot vacuums remove pet hair, lint and dust off floors before they can settle. They can also stay clear of obstacles such as furniture that is tippy and stairs.

Most robotic vacuums require regular maintenance. This involves emptying the bin (and occasionally, rinsing it) and cleaning the cameras and sensors. Also, they have to be connected to an electrical source. Many have smartphone apps for scheduling, adjusting setting and more.

iRobot Roomba 960

The iRobot Roomba 980, the most recent in a line of top-of the-line robot vacuums, is an essential for any modern home. This model has seriously strong suction and it comes with a HEPA filter that can aid anyone who is concerned about allergies. On top of that, it also has a strong battery that can clean up to two hours and it will automatically return to its dock once its bin is full.

It also comes with an option called smart mapping that uses multiple sensors to help suss out the areas in your home that require attention and make a tidy route around them. We've seen this technology in action and it does an excellent job of moving around toys placed on the floor, or furniture legs that are sticking out from under things. It also comes with a sensor that can snap Roomba back to reality when it begins to wander away from its initial location.

iRobot has also included a set of rollers underneath the Roomba that don't have bristles and therefore are more likely to withstand tangles than previous models. They're also a bit taller than previous rollers, and will fit better under beds and couches that are low and are designed to help this model navigate more easily across different flooring types.

What makes the Roomba 980 stand out from other models of this class however, is its integration of the new dirt detection feature that uses cameras to detect bits of embedded dirt. This is a nice improvement over the previous version that relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom coverage method to bounce around a room and clean everything at least three times from different angles.

In our tests of its performance in our tests of its performance, the Roomba 980 did well on carpets and hard flooring. Its score on low pile carpet was impressive, and it got a very excellent score on mid pile too. It did a good job getting rid of pet hair, but struggled with long and thick pet hair that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the top performing robots we've reviewed, despite these minor limitations.  mop robot vacuum 's also less expensive than other top-of-the-line models. It still has a lot of features that we'd expect to see in a flagship model however, it doesn't come with all the fancy apps or smart home integration that are found in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba is simple to set up and get working immediately. After taking off the pull tab for the battery and yellow bin insert from its undercarriage, all that you need to do is plug it into its Home Base docking station or a wall socket, press its large "Clean" button and let it go to work. It will return to its dock when its battery is out or it's full of debris, and it has indicators on the top to indicate when its bin is full or it requires recharging or if its Wi-Fi signal has gone out.
